Insurance processing and coding functions are performed by specialists employed in health care settings. Health insurance (or health information) specialists assign and report ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS level II codes on insurance claims for diagnoses and procedures/services provided to patients in a variety of health care environments. The insurance, billing, and coding program offers individuals the opportunity to pursue a business-related career that is an essential part of the health care industry.
Program Purpose: The purpose of this program is to prepare students with skills and knowledge to obtain entry level positions as insurance, billing, and coding professionals in a variety of health care settings. Students will be provided with appropriate background by taking insurance, billing, and coding courses as well as general education courses necessary to begin a career processing insurance claims and assigning/reporting codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services. |
